West Virginia Sustainable Communities Training Program

West Virginia Sustainable Communities Program (SCTP) is an annual series of six, two-day workshops held throughout West Virginia. SCTP focuses on leadership development training to help communities reach their goals. The format uses a unique training framework that blends presentation, peer exchange, group process, networking, and local site visits into a holistic learning experience. Each training session (six in each cycle) is created to encourage substantial peer learning and collaborative networking.

The content of the training focuses on Vaughn Grisham's Community Actualization Pyramid:

Through the Sustainable Communities Program, the Collaborative endeavors to accomplish the following training objectives:

To provide a more intensive understanding of holistic community development leading to the development of sustainable community action and projects;
To give participants the opportunity to participate in community development initiatives while strengthening their individual and organizational abilities;
To provide additional skills to participants in the process of building collaborative networks in communities;
To help participants create a community environment that permits the community to achieve long-term permanent change;
To assist communities and organizations to build assets for the least economically well-off;
To foster the growth or additional social capital that will result in stronger individual, organizational, community and regional relationships; and
To develop stronger and better-informed decision-making in matters relating to community development.
